Cape York Peninsula Landcare Program

provides Landcare support to primary producers, Indigenous communities and Landcare and catchment groups across Cape York Peninsula Natural Resource Management (NRM) region, from the Mitchell River north to the Torres Strait Islands.

The Cape York Peninsula Landcare Program is hosted by Cook Shire Council.

Peninsula Landcare Committee (PLC)

is the community advisory group for the Program. The CYP Landcare Program works closely with primary industry groups, Indigenous communities, State and Federal government, local councils, schools and other NRM organizations to maximize landcare outcomes and resources on the Peninsula. • Landcare grants funding on ground works on Cape York Peninsula
• Information and assistance for land managers accessing other landcare incentives
• Expert on-property advice to support land managers developing sustainable grazing regimes and best management practices through the Grazing Land Management Program
• Supporting land managers with property planning
• Workshops on sustainable land use and skill development to enhance the community’s ability to promote sustainable land management, servicing both Indigenous and non-indigenous land manager’s information needs.
• One-stop-shop for independent information on sustainable land management

• Landcare Centre in Cooktown and mobile centre traveling throughout the Peninsula
• Over 100 natural resource management fact sheets and information resources on sustainable land use and best management practices
• Support for Landcare groups and catchment groups on the Peninsula
• Mail-outs and email updates providing land managers with natural resource management news
